Jacqueline Fernandez was born in Manama and grew up in a mixed-ethnic, multiracial family. Her father Elroy is from Sri Lanka (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother, Kim is Malaysian. Her siblings include two brothers and an older sister. She was born and raised in Bahrain. Her parents been to the country in the 1980s due to the civil war within Sri Lanka. Her schooling was completed at Bahrain and she received the Scholarship for an education at University of Sydney. There she graduated with an Media and Communications degree. With a love of different cultures and languages, she was a part of the Berlitz school of languages, which is where she began to learn Spanish and improve her French as well as Arabic. In 2006 she was named Miss Sri Lanka. Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2006 in March, 2006 and also competed in Miss Universe 2006. In 2006, she was awarded the Miss Sri Lanka title. Following that, she stepped into television to host an interview show on Sri Lankan business known as Lanka Business Report. Padukone's father is badminton-player Prakash Padukone. Padukone has been raised both in Copenhagen as well as Bangalore. As a teenager, Padukone competed at the national badminton tournaments level. She later quit the game to pursue a career as fashion designer. Padukone is a native of Mangalore, Indian. Her mother tongue Konkani is where she comes from. Her family tree is rooted in Padukone village located in Kundapura Taluk in the Udupi District of Karnataka, the Indian state. Karnataka, India. Prakash Padukone was a badminton legend before retiring in the late 1980s. The mother of her daughter, a travel agency, also hails from this area.
